At some point prior to Superman's third year in control of the world, Detective Chimp had met with Zatanna and Constantine (who he doesn't like.) Constantine knows him as the "greatest detective in the world."
Constantine arrives in his hideout, where he had been hiding for some time after an unknown event, by a teleportation spell from Zatanna. He is sitting in a chair drinking beer, surrounded by pizza boxes and asks Constantine if he "always magically appeared in rooms unannounced." Constantine asks if he was surprised, but he replies that he rarely is, before asking him what he wanted in an aggressive manner.
